FAQ’s – Memorial Jewellery

Once you have placed your order we will send you a kit along with a brief questionnaire requesting further details to enable us to complete your order to our high standards. These questions will include the name of the deceased, an alternative delivery address for “signed for Royal Mail postage” and for you to give a more detailed description of the colour you require. It will also ask for a telephone number that you can be contacted on should Cathy need to speak to you. Once your ashes are received they will be logged into our order book which contains your name, your loved ones’ name, the order number and date received. Your loved ones’ ashes will be then stored safely in an individual cubby hole until Cathy is ready to start work. We will advise you once your loved ashes have been received.

Royal Mail state in their terms that: –

5.7.20.1 – Volume of Human or Animal ashes per item must not exceed 50 grams; and

5.7.20.2 – Human and Animal ashes must be placed in a sift-proof container and securely closed. Items must be tightly packaged in strong outer packaging and must be secured or cushioned to prevent any damage. The sender’s name and return address must be clearly visible on the outer packaging.

When posting your ashes to us if the post office queries what you are sending please refer them to the Royal Mail Post Scheme 30th January 2017 clauses 5.7.20.1 and 5.7.20.2

We also suggest you send “Special Delivery” or “Signed For” so that you can track your package until it reaches our care.

Put in simple terms, we must ask you to put your faith and trust in us. It would be unimaginable for us to even consider using someone else’s ashes. Please rest assured that would never be the case. We also send a certificate of Authenticity when we send your piece of jewellery back to you. This will have a serial number, the name of you loved one and will be signed by Cathy.

As a rule of thumb, the answer is generally no, but as stated in the “About Us” section, Cathy generally only says “no” when she really means “No” so there is never any harm in asking.

Your loved one’s ashes are encapsulated permanently in glass using a special technique Cathy has devised. Unlike memorial jewellery made from resin our products will not turn yellow or run the risk of being scratched by the wear and tear of daily life.

Yes of course by Mutual Arrangement. Please Contact us on 07444 015409 or email to info@ashestoheirloom.co.uk

As with all handmade items, no two pieces are the same. The same can be said for cremation ashes. Just like pebbles on a beach, when they get wet lots of different colour shades shine through. Also, ashes can range from being quite course to more powdery in texture. Accordingly, your precious keepsake could appear lighter or darker than the images.

We usually say 21 days from receipt of your loved one’s ashes but strive to turn the orders around faster than that. During busy times and annual leave this time may be extended but we will let you know if that is going to be the case. Either via email or telephone call or there will be a banner on the website. If your memorial piece is a gift and time is short, please let us know and we will do our very best to get it out to you on time or earlier BUT at the very least we require 1 week to turn an order around to allow time for the various processes to be carried out.

I don’t have any cremation ash – can you make my memorial piece using hair or any other item such as a piece of fabric?

Yes, we can. With regards to hair please bear in mind that the lighter it is the less likely it is to show up. Please contact us if you would like a chat there are many options open to you.

N.B. This list is not exhaustive so please contact us if you have any questions.
